PROGRAM OUTLINE

Tui‐Na Massage includes the use of hand techniques to massage the soft tissue (muscle and tendon) of the body, acupressure techniques to directly affect the flow of Qi, and manipulation techniques to realign the musculoskeletal and ligamentous relationships (bone‐setting). Tui‐na has a variety of different systems that emphasize particular aspects of these therapeutic principles

Tui‐Na Massage certificate program is designed for individuals seeking a career in therapeutic massage. The program is also suitable for those who are adding skills to their profession as health care workers in oriental massage clinic, physical or occupational therapy, healing centre, or any other related field.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

– High School Diploma (or Equivalent) or 19 years old;
– English Language Proficiency Requirement (See. our policy)

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this program the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • use hand techniques to massage the soft tissue (muscle and tendon) of the body, acupressure techniques to directly affect the flow of Qi, and manipulation techniques to realign the musculoskeletal and ligamentous relationships (bone‐setting);
  • understand a variety of different systems that emphasize particular aspects of these therapeutic principles;
  • employ essential therapeutic communication skills in professional practice situations to effectively work with and educate the public about integrative medical care models;
  • establish professional relationships with TCM colleagues and members of the inter‐professional healthcare teams;
  • assess and treat clients in a clinical setting using effective health related interpersonal skills;
  • promote and advocate for the benefits of Tui‐na treatment to the community;
  • establish a plan for lifelong learning for personal and professional development;
  • provide culturally sensitive care to a diverse client population in the Tui‐na massage clinical setting;
  • identify and articulate the importance of conducting a Tui‐na massage practice in an ethical and professional manner, and within the appropriate provincial and federal legal requirements;
  • apply basic entrepreneurial strategies to identify and respond to new opportunities.
